Minotauros take Game 1 over Wings in OT
ABERDEEN, S.D. — Hang on, this is going to be a wild series.
The Minot Minotauros struck first and grabbed Game 1 of the Central Cup final in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Friday night with an overtime goal by Kevin Ness to upend the Aberdeen Wings, 4-3.
Both teams scored once in every period before extra time was needed.
In the first, Justin Kelly got the Minotauros on the board first 1:21 into the contest. John Sladic pulled the score even with two minutes remaining in the period.
Joe Strada gave the Wings their first lead 10:31 into the second period. Minot answered a minute and a half later with Wilmer Skoog scoring an unassisted goal.
David Raisanen thought he had the game-winning goal when the bulky forward scored with 10 minutes remaining in the third period. Not to be, as Sladic scored again with 5:12 left and sent the game to overtime tied at 3-3.
The finisher in overtime was Ness with his first playoff goal. Joseph Harguindeguy provided his first playoff assist. An unluckily duo, but they came up clutch.
Minotauros take a 1-0 series lead into Game 2 tonight in Aberdeen. Puck drop at 7:15 p.m.
