Majettes top Blue Jays, 8-1

Ashton Gerard/MDN Majettes sophomore Sydney Fettig fires a forehand shot across the court against Jamestown Tuesday in Minot.

Contributions throughout the entire lineup led to the Majettes tennis squad’s near-sweep of the Jamestown Blue Jays Tuesday at Hammond Park. The Majettes (5-0, 2-0 WDA) defeated the Blue Jays (0-4, 0-2 WDA) 8-1 in the conference affair.

“All five singles wins came in straight sets and we saw more consistant play from the bottom of our lineup,” Minot High head coach Scott DeLorme said. “We put a focus on our depth and patterns in practice and I think we saw that from some of our girls.”

Aggressive play has been a point of emphasis this season for the Majettes and DeLorme saw improvement from the doubles pairs Tuesday.

Seniors Raquel Egge and Joelle Fettig teamed up for doubles at No. 1 and defeated Jamestown’s Phoebe Olson and Lauryn Hibl in straight sets.

“At No. 2, Eden Olson and Sofia Egge had to bounce back after dropping their second set, but to their credit made some necessary changes between sets to secure a 6-4 third set victory,” DeLorme said.

Finally, No. 3 doubles pair Morgan Wheeler and Sydney Fettig for the Majettes also got a straight set win to finish the day.

“We like our depth and are confident we have multiple doubles combinations we can turn to throughout the year which will be a huge benefit as the post season comes,” DeLorme said.

The Majettes travel to Williston Thursday for a four singles and three doubles non-conference match against the Coyotes begining at 4 p.m.
