Majettes tennis sweeps, places three during Round Robin weekend

Coming in hot this season, Minot High School girls tennis was able to go 4-0 after the Minot Round Robin Duel Day Friday at Cameron Indoor Tennis Center. The Majettes earned wins against Dickinson (3-2), Jamestown (4-1), Bismarck Century (4-1) and Williston (5-0).

“We got off to an excellent start early in the season going 4-0 in non-conference matches against some of the better teams in the region,” Minot High head coach Scott DeLorme said. “We knew we would have some learning curves with some of our younger players and we definitely saw that Friday, but we also saw those girls win numerous matches throughout the day and improve throughout the day.”

The Individual Round Robin took place Saturday and Minot saw four athletes place. Senior Raquel Egge went 8-0 on the day to take first in her division for singles. At No. 1 doubles, Joelle Fettig and Sofia Egge paired to finish first as well.

“They have the ability to play with some of the top players in the region and I think they proved that today against some very good competition in the No. 1 spot,” DeLorme said.

Also placing for the Majettes was Eden Olson at No. 2 singles.

“Eden is going to have a very good year for us as she has the ability to hit all the shots and when she plays an aggressive style, she is as tough as almost any player in the region,” DeLorme said.

Overall, DeLorme was pleased by the performance from the team over the weekend but recognizes that it is early in the season. The Round Robin was an opportunity to get better and experience match play.

“Hopefully we were able to benefit from both of those and we now know some areas we need to focus on going forward,” DeLorme added.

Up next, the Majettes will take on Bismarck Legacy Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. at the Sanford Sports Complex in Bismarck.
