Majettes narrowly sweep Braves, 7-2 and 11-10

The Minot High School Majettes (9-5, 6-5 WDA) took on the Mandan Braves (2-10, 2-6 WDA) at South Hill Softball Complex Friday in Minot. The Majettes swept the Braves, 7-2 and 11-10.

The Majettes convincingly took Game 1 from the Braves, scoring six runs in the first inning and tacking on one more in the sixth and final inning. Mandan was held to one run in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Amanda Spelhaug pitched Game 1 for the Majettes. Cambrie Pretzer and Abigail Barnum each recorded a double, and Pretzer had two RBIs.

Game 2 proved to be more of a challenge as the game went to nine innings. The Majettes were able to come out on top, defeating the Braves 11-10. Paige Ackerman pitched all nine innings and earned the win.

Mandan started the game with two runs in the second inning, to which the Majettes responded with six of their own at the bottom of the inning. By the sixth inning, Mandan was leading the Majettes 7-6. The Braves tacked on three more runs in the top of the seventh.

The Majettes pushed through, delivering four runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and force extra innings. In the bottom of the ninth, the Majettes earned their final run of the game to top the Braves.

Taylee Hertz, Spelhaug and Jailee Brit each recorded a double. Hertz and Spelhaug had two RBIs each.

Up next, the Majettes will travel to Williston on Tuesday to take on the Coyotes at the Western Star Softball Complex.
