MSU men’s golf finishes fourth to open new season

BEMIDJI, Minn. — The Minot State men’s golf team finished fourth at the two-day Bemidji State Invitational in its season opener on Tuesday at the Bemidji Town and Country Club.

The Beavers shot a second-round score of 299 to finish with a team total of 597. Finishing ahead of them were Manitoba (579), host Bemidji State (588) and Winona State (595).

Medalist honors went to Bemidji State’s Gregg Matthew with a two-day total of 142. Matthew Kreutz and Leighton Bearchell each shot 146 for Minot State to tie for eighth place. Also golfing for the Beavers were Matthew Bean (14th), Carson Harcourt (20th), Cody Reynolds (36th), Braeden Cooper (37th) and Aaron Ogrodnick (49th).

MSU returns to the links on Sept. 16-17 at the Minnesota Crookston Invitational.

defeats U-Mary, 3-0

BISMARCK — The Minot State volleyball team travelled to Bismarck Tuesday for a non-conference matchup against University of Mary. The Beavers stole the show, winning in three sets of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-23.

Minot State never trailed in the first set as the Beavers rolled to a 25-21 win.

Shelby Spuller ended the night with a team-high 11 kills to help lift the Beavers to victory. This marks Spuller’s eighth double-figure kill match of the season. Following Spuller were Jeanne Brenner (eight) and Emily Falldorf (seven).

Setting up Spuller, Brenner and Falldorf was Kelsey Dewulf, leading the team with 32 assits.

Karli Koza served up two aces, while Hannah Southcott served one in the win over U-Mary. Koza was all over the court for the Beavers, leading the team in digs with 14.

Hayley Swain had two solo blocks for the Beavers with two assisted. Falldorf and Shae Pederson had four assisted blocks each. The Beavers outblocked the Mauraders 9-6.

The Beavers (6-5) will move on to play University of Minnesota Duluth at home at 6 p.m. on Friday.
