Magi tennis defeats Mandan 9-0

MANDAN — The Minot High boys tennis team completed its first road match of the season with a sweep against Mandan Thursday at Madnan Middle School.

“After a tough week last week playing 3 of the top teams in the state, I thought we had a great week of practice and saw some of that carry over today,” Minot High head coach Scott DeLorme said. “We saw strong singles play winning five of the six singles matches in straight sets.”

Senior Mason Diehl went the distance with Mandan’s Ben Gartner. After losing the first set, 6-4, Diehl bounced back to win the final sets, 6-2 and 7-5. Rory Taney, Jack Wolsky and Ridge Jaeger each won sets without giving up a single point Thursday.

“Doubles has been our focus and we’re starting to get more aggressive and hoping that can be a huge emphasis for us this weekend as we travel to Fargo for two straight days of an East/West Crossover,” DeLorme said.

Two doubles pairs were able to win in straight sets Thursday. Eric Wentz and Wolsky went 6-2 and 7-6 to win over Mandan’s Gartner and Kamdin Sedivec. Peyton Huss and Taney went 6-1 and 6-2 at No. 3 doubles to defeat Braden Ressler and Keaton Pritchett.

“We know the things we need to work on and this will give us a great chance to focus on them in matches that don’t affect our WDA seeding,” DeLorme said about the upcoming matches this weekend.

The Magi will travel to Fargo today to face Fargo North at 10 a.m., Fargo South at 12:30 p.m. and West Fargo Sheyenne at 3:30 p.m.
