Majettes golf second, Tschetter takes third at East/West Classic
JAMESTOWN — The Minot High School girls golf team couldn’t keep pace with Bismarck Century, but still recorded its best finish since its home invite last season with a runner-up finish Tuesday at the two-day East/West Classic tournament in Jamestown.
The Majettes shot a second-best 339 on Day 2 for a team total of 672. Century came in with a tournament-low 321 on the second day to finish 26 strokes better than Minot with a team total of 646. Grand Forks Red River (688), Williston (694) and West Fargo Sheyenne (702) rounded out the Top 5.
“Great team effort in grinding out a few tough spots in our game,” MHS coach Scott Foltz said.
Minot junior Becca Tschetter moved up from sixth to third place by shooting a 77 in the final round. She finished with a total of 156 and was only beat out by Century’s Hannah Herbel (146) and Williston’s Kaleigh Carmichael (154).
“Becca (Tschetter) combined long drives with a nice touch around the green,” Foltz said. “She stayed away from the big numbers.”
Jaci Jones (163 total) and Joelle Fettig (167) each shot in the 80s on Tuesday for the Majettes. Sydney Berg capped Minot’s team score with a 92 for a total of 186. Taryn Trueblood (196) and Avery Falcon (231) also competed for MHS.
The Majettes next meet is the Williston Invite on Monday (August 20) at the Links of North Dakota.
