MSU women’s hockey strikes again, winning 8-3

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Minot State University women’s hockey team played their second game of women’s ACHA Division II National Tournament pool-play Thursday against East 3-seed Liberty University. The Beavers won 8-3.

Within the first minutes of the game, Minot’s Vanessa Grimstad set up the shot for Lauren Michayluk to score the first goal of the game.

Sami Jo Henry and Mackenzie Balogh, both assisted by sophomore Beth-Ann Goudy, were also able to score in the first period, bringing Minot’s lead to 3-0 over Liberty.

While Liberty was serving time in the penalty box, Minot State junior Cassidy McGree wasted no time extending the lead to 4-0.

Though Liberty was able to score twice in the second period, once off the power play, Henry found the goal again to add to the Beavers’ domination. The Beavers led 5-2 going into the third period.

Liberty was out fast in the third, working to make up for lost time and hopefully come back, but the Beavers didn’t hold back in the third.

Grimstad, assisted by Balogh, fired away at the net to bring the total goals to 6. Henry with a pass from Bryana Christensen earned a hat trick on the night with less than five minutes to go.

Finishing the game with the duo that started the game, Michayluk set up the shot for Grimstad to score her second goal of the night at 18:12, and the Beavers ended the day with a score of 8-3.

The Beavers, 2-seed of the West, will go on to face Montclair State University, 6-seed of the East, for their final pool-play game at 12:15 p.m. (central time) today at the Chiller Easton in Columbus.
