Twenty-three Beavers named to NSIC Fall All-Academic team
BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Twenty-three Minot State student-athletes have been named to the 2017 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Fall All-Academic team the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Steven Porter (men’s cross country), Patience Albertson (women’s cross country), Emily Westlake (women’s cross country), Zac Cunha (football), Ryan Fila (football), Parker Franzen (football), Logan Gunderson (football), Andy Jones (football), Fed Joseph (football), Kolby Lang (football), Taylor Maloney (football), Nathan Rauhauser (football), Lane Torgerson (football), Andrea Franco (soccer), Ashley Franco (soccer), Autumne Haskell (soccer), Erin Rafferty (soccer), Brileigh Boyce (volleyball), Emily Falldorf (volleyball), Shae Pedersen (volleyball), Cody Shwaluk (volleyball), Shelby Spuller (volleyball) and Nicole Wondrasek (volleyball) were each named to the all-academic team.
To be eligible for this honor, the student-athlete must be a member of the varsity traveling team and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. Furthermore, the student-athlete must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at her/his institution (true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution.
The Beaver football team led the way for Minot State with 10 student-athletes named to the all-academic team. Volleyball was second among Minot State programs with six honorees, while the soccer team placed four student-athletes on the list. Women’s cross country had two student-athletes honored and men’s cross country had one student-athlete. Beaver student-athletes produced a 35.3 percent increase in honorees from the 2016 Fall All-Academic team.
The fall season includes student-athletes from men’s cross country, women’s cross country, football, volleyball and soccer.
