In memory of Robbie Conway: 2Strong

WESTHOPE — A week ago, Robbie Conway passed away after suffering a heart attack caused by doing something he loved: racing. A tragic circumstance that has been met with an outpouring of support from the community.

The use of #2Strong has flooded social media over the last week. At first the hashtag was used to pass along words of encouragement and strength to Conway before he passed and now offers the same support for family and friends in his departure.

Conway, a Westhope native, leaves behind a legacy much greater than what he achieved on the race track in his IMCA Sport Mod white and yellow No. 2.

As shown by all the compassion given, it’s evident to see that Conway touched a lot of lives. He leaves behind memories on and off the track that won’t soon be forgotten. A small portion of which can be found in the quotes gathered for this memorial.

Those wishing to share their own memories can do so today. Conway’s funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Westhope.

Drivers are encouraged to bring their race cars for a final drive with Conway to his resting place. A celebration of Conway’s life and his passion for racing.

“A couple winters ago, my husband bought a large inflatable snowman that lit up. He put it up in the yard, and we couldn’t wait for our young grandson McCoy to come see it! The next morning it was gone!

I was so disgusted and thought “What a Christmas spirit!” Luckily, I had snapped a quick picture of it. So, I posted it on Facebook, showing my disappointment. Soon I had a message from Robbie and Lori Conway to go to Menards. There was something there for me.

It was an identical snowman to the one stolen! That really touched our hearts. That is the kind of people the Conways are. Thoughtful and generous in a silent sort of way.”

“He was #2 on the track, and #1 off it. Great man, very humble.

I got to know him well, as he was close with my grandpa Dick. I feel lucky to have known Robbie. Going to Nodak won’t be the same, he was the standard of our class. I will miss my friend.”

— Isaac Sondrol, IMCA Sports Mod driver

“An all-around great guy, competitor and friend. Known him since ’96. Would do anything for you.”

— Robby Rosselli, IMCA Sports Mod driver

“He was one of the most amazing guy at the track. He would loan me parts just to help out. He could always put a smile on your face even if you were having the worst day possible.

The last text I got from him I asked if I could rent a shock from him. He answered back with, ‘No, but you can borrow it if you want.'”

— Dallas Rice, IMCA Modified driver

“While trying to come up with a way to honor a great man, it never seems to be enough. Our father, husband, brother, and friend has made a lasting impact everywhere he has been. One of the countless things dad enjoyed was spending time at racetracks.

To celebrate dad’s life, we would appreciate all racers who are able to attend (the funeral) to bring their cars and join in on the parade to our dad’s final victory lane… Thank you all for the continued support.”
