Bishop Ryan cruises by South Prairie

The Bishop Ryan girls basketball team could do nearly nothing wrong in its District 12 tournament opener Thursday.

Ryan raced off to a 43-13 halftime lead and had little difficulty in the second half, cruising to a 80-30 victory at the Minot Auditorium.

The No. 1 seeded Lions will face Lewis & Clark Berthold at 6 p.m. today in the District 12 semifinals.

“We had a great game today,” Bishop Ryan coach Julie Stewart said. “I thought everyone worked together and defensively we took care of business. We were patient and executed on offense as well.”

Three Lions players finished in double figures, including Annika Stewart (21), Emma Passa (14) and McKinlee Harmon (12). Ryan was 9-of-12 from the free throw line and hit 33 field goals.

“It’s always nice to get so many contributions from so many kids,” Stewart said. “All of them buy into what we’re trying to do. Each one is doing the best they can to help the team.”

Lacey Matula and Karena Verbritsky had 11 points each for South Prairie, which was 6-of-10 from the free throw line and made 11 field goals.
