MEDORA – Minot will be the site of the 2023 North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame’s annual meeting. This will be the second time in the history of the organization the annual meeting has been held in Minot.

The annual meeting has been scheduled for Feb. 17-19, 2023, in the Clarion Hotel and Convention Center.

Rick Thompson, N.D. Cowboy Hall of Fame (NDCHF) executive director, said 350-400 people are expected to attend the Minot annual meeting.

Anyone who would like to help plan the event is welcome to attend NDCHF’s District 5 meetings held in Minot. For more information about scheduled meetings contact the NDCHF office in Medora at 623-2000 or Kathy Warberg, NDCHF District 5 secretary, at 701-720-3234 or email kwarberg80@gmail.com. NDCHF membership is not required to assist with annual meeting plans.

Each year’s annual meeting includes testimonies given about those nominated for induction in the Hall of Honorees that year. The induction ceremony is held in June in Medora.

The Hall of Fame observed its 25th anniversary in 2020. Now the organization is looking ahead to the future.

Special educational events are being planned at NDCHF’s Center of Western Heritage & Cultures in Medora to increase engagement with the public.

“We’re trying to be more interactive with everybody whether they’re from in town or tourists, especially in the summer but we’d like to do it year-round,” said Thompson.

A Meet the Artist event with artist Denise Semple of Sioux City, Iowa, on Oct. 20, 2021, at the Center kicked off the educational event series. Semple’s painting of Sacagawea, the interpreter and guide for the Lewis and Clark expedition, commissioned by NDCHF District 5 trustee Dale Myers of Minot, was featured at the event.

Jessie Veeder of Watford City will start the summer’s Educational Initiative Series in the center on Friday, July 8, from 1-3 p.m. She will read from her book “Prairie Princess,” teaching kids about the western lifestyle, play music, and sign books.

This year NDCHF has been selected as the grand marshal of the North Dakota State Parade to be held on Saturday, July 23, during the North Dakota State Fair in Minot.

In more recent years the organization has held a raffle to raise money for the organization. Sales of the tickets include at the North Dakota State Fair in Minot.
