Knights saddle up to ride depth towards a state title

Entering the new season after a strong rally to finish their 2021-2022 campaign with a winning record, the Our Redeemer’s Knights look to harness some of that winning momentum as they charge into the 2022-2023 schedule.

Not content with just improving their winning percentage from last year, head coach Brock Teets has his team focused on the big prize: a North Dakota Class B state title.

Exemplifying this mindset, Teets stated, “We hope to be playing our best basketball by the end of the year and earn a trip to the regional tournament in March. From there, anything can happen.”

Elaborating further, Teets continued, “We will have some growing pains, but this group I think will be a totally different team come late February and March.”

After the graduation of all-state guard Zach Hendrickson, Our Redeemer’s 2022-2023 success heavily depends on collaborative efforts by players from the top to the bottom of the roster, and them embracing their expanded roles, to help in filling his enormous shoes.

To turn the Knights’ ultimate goal into a reality, Teets accentuated that the team will look to two of their seniors, Coltan Francis and Noah Erickson.

Teets explained, “We are going to lean on them both for leadership as we have a young roster dominated by freshman and sophomores. Coltan and Noah work extremely hard and are excellent teammates.”

However, in addition to having senior leadership, he would proceed to emphasize that, “We will rely heavily on our entire team as we look to play a lot of kids this year and I think we will have a different leading scorer every night. We will be well balanced with some freshman and sophomores stepping up to play some big roles this year.”

Utilizing their depth, this year’s Knights team plans to consistently go nine to ten players deep on the bench, tapping into the plentiful shooting and scoring talents of a squad built on great teammates playing for each other and competing to the final buzzer on a nightly basis.

Showing marked improvements in the areas of passing and shooting in the off-season like few Our Redeemer’s squads before it, Teets has no doubts that fans and opponents alike will see these improvements lead to more wins and a chance to bring home a championship.

Our Redeemer’s will open their season in the Velva Tournament on Dec. 13.
