Mary Lou Quarne, 91, Columbus, Indiana, formerly of Minot and Grenora, died Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in a Columbus, IN hospital.

Mary Lou was born January 10, 1934, the daughter of Henry and Ida (Davy) Rogers, in Minot, ND. She was raised and educated in Velva, ND and graduated from Velva High School in 1951. She then went on to Minot Teachers College and received a standard teaching certificate. Following graduation, she taught in rural Sawyer for the next two years.

Mary Lou was once married to Gerhardt Edwin Quarne. They were blessed with six children: John, Gary, Cindy, Randy, Judy and Chris. She made her home in Grenora, ND for thirty-eight years until moving to Minot in 1992.

Mary Lou was a contract bus driver for Grenora School District for fourteen years while working at the Grenora Cafe. She was employed at Schatz Crossroads from 1992-1999, as a waitress/supervisor. Then she became a contract driver for the Minot Daily News and later was employed at Wendy’s for two years until retirement.

Mary Lou was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She enjoyed sewing, baking and bowling. Mary Lou will be remembered for her love of all sports, her amazing baking and kind-loving nature. It always brought Mary Lou so much joy to share her homemade banana bread.

Mary Lou’s loving family includes her children John (Heidi) Lundgren, Gilbert, AZ, Gary Quarne, Grenora, ND, Cindy (David) Olson, Columbus, IN, Randy (Terri) Quarne, Lipan, TX, Judy (Jade) Evenson, Billings, MT and Chris (Bob) Swartout, Glenburn, ND, grandchildren Brian (Susan) Lundgren, Austin (Tracy) Olson, Derick (Katie) Olson, Sheila Olson, Heather Bustamante, Dustin Jones, Jayson (Veronnaka) Evenson, Breanna Quarne and Donavon Swartout, 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, sister Pat (Dick) Fischer, Ellensburg, WA, sisters-in-law Shirley Rogers, Phoenix, AZ, Lorna Quarne, Grenora, ND, Thelma Quarne, Eugene, OR and brother-in-law Oscar Quarne, Williston, ND along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents Ida and Henry Rogers, brothers Lynn Rogers and Jack Rogers, sisters-in-law Hazel Rogers, Lila Quarne, Gloria Quarne, Irma Hegeland and Betty Sorenson, former husband Edwin Quarne, brother-in-law Donavon Quarne, Irwin Quane, Jeppe Sorenson and Selmer Helgeland.

Celebration of Mary Lou’s Life: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Thomas Family Funeral Home in Minot.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND

Visitation: One hour prior to the start of the service at the funeral home.

Memorials are preferred to an organization of the donor’s choice.
