Better options exist than term limits

Steven Moen , Minot I urge a No vote on both measures but especially the term limits. I think there has to be a better way to address this issue, and all the out of state money funding this measure is a big red flag that there is more to it than what is being told to the voter.  More than 50% of the legislators have been turned over according to Darrell Lies and his talk show so there really is no reason to do this; the question is why is it being pushed.  A better way to keep everyone honest is to pass a law to keep all the funding for candidates local. By that, if you are ...

Vote ‘no’ on legislator term limits

Bruce Gjovig , Grand Forks Have you ever voted for a legislator that served longer than 8 years? Nearly every voter has. And every voter should have that freedom Vote “No” on term limits (Measure #1) to keep all your future choices available for house and senate candidates. Term limits are a limitation on your freedom and the rights of citizens to choose and elect their preferred legislators. Term limits will transfer power to unelected career bureaucrats and special interest lobbyists — centered in Bismarck — as experienced legislators around the state are forced ...

Vote no on measure 1

Jeff Schafer , New Rockford Measure 1 is portrayed as a “fix” for North Dakota politics. Again, out-of-state money and individuals are trying to influence our state’s election process. I’m tired of out-of-staters telling us what’s good for North Dakota and trying to take away our right to vote – the very thing we pride ourselves on in America! The North Dakota Stockmen’s Association, North Dakota Farmers Union and North Dakota Farm Bureau oppose this measure. Agriculture stands together to support our right as citizens to cast our vote for whomever we want in an ...

Keep state safe by voting no

Burleigh County Sheriff Kelly Leben , Bismarck I’m writing this, not only as a law enforcement officer, but as a citizen of North Dakota. Legalizing marijuana would be a serious mistake. There is no good reason to make it easy for more access to an illicit, insidious drug. I’m proud that the North Dakota Sheriffs and Deputies Association and the Chiefs of Police Association of ND have come out in opposition to Measure 2. We know the many problems legalization of marijuana has caused in states where it is legal. As I write this, strong, family-supportive organizations have ...

Term limits will hurt state

Mike Motschenbacher , Bismarck On the November 8th ballot voters are going to vote on term limits. It is very important that the voters know all the facts prior to doing so. The first fact is that this measure only institutes term limits for the Governor and State Legislators. This measure does not affect any statewide elected officials such as Attorney General, Tax Commissioner, or Secretary of State for example. It also does not affect any Federal seats. The second fact is that ND Legislators are only part time. They only serve 80 days every other year. Once a legislator ...

Natural gas should be free for ND

Troy Johnson , Williston Why hasn’t anybody asked the question, where does natural gas come from? Answer: right here in western North Dakota. The gas comes right out of the ground all around us. It’s actually a by-product with crude oil. Refined right here in North Dakota. This resource, which gets “flared off” a lot, should be free for western North Dakota. Much of this gas is stuffed into a pipeline and shipped out to get a much higher price. MDU would have way more profits if they would quit making bad investments. Stick with handling natural gas so the people on ...
