Even with discount, property taxes high

John Charles Schollmeyer, Minot

I placed my tax payment ($7733) in my mailbox with the flag up at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb.18. The mailman did not pick up the mail, so I delivered the payment to the post office on Feb.19. (I have paid my real estate taxes in full in Feb. for 49 years).

So on Feb.19 with thousands of payments at the courthouse, the clerks are diligently looking for day late postmarks. Since my payment was a day late, I was denied my 5% discount of $407. This is like driving 46 mph in a 45 mph zone and getting a ticket for $407. Ironically, these checks are not deposited for many days. My payment didn’t clear my bank until March 4 (13 days).

Even with the 5% discount our taxes are the highest in the state and have been for years.

As Mayor, Rob Fuller will not look for day late postmarks. He will diligently work to lower our taxes.

Starting at $2.99/week.
