Who Killed HB 1373?

North Dakota House Bill 1373, known as the “Prenatal Equal Protection Act,” or the “Personhood Bill,” which would have afforded the same rights to those human beings within the womb as those without, was effectively killed, as similar bills have been in Oklahoma, Louisiana, and in other states, by no other than pro-life groups who strongly weighed in opposition to the bill, effectively discipling Republican lawmakers to vote it down. Confused? You thought pro-life organizations existed to eliminate abortion and and protect the life of the unborn child? No, not if there is any legal accountability for a mother who kills her own child in the womb.
There is a huge disconnect of both logical and moral thought with these suppposedly “pro-life” groups. They will posit that an unborn child is indeed a person who is made in the image of God. They will also agree that to kill that person in the womb is murder, yet they want no culpability at all for the mother for doing so. In essence, they believe in a protected class of murderers who can kill with impunity. Apparently, they either worship women as goddesses who are above the law, always the innocent party, or infantilize them as less than responsible moral agents, somehow not capable of knowing they are murdering their own child when they abort their unborn baby. They tell these mothers that they are “the 2nd victim,” along with the unborn murdered baby. Thus, they cheat them out of the forgiveness offered in Christ by His shed blood because, after all, a victim is not guilty, so doesn’t need to repent and ask for forgiveness for their sin.
Yes, I’m perfectly aware that the terms murder, and murderer, sound harsh, but that’s because women, and our entire society, have been lied to for over fifty years. “It’s a glob of tissue.” “It’s a choice.” Or, the euphemism that conveniently avoids any discussion of the unborn child entirely, and deems it “women’s healthcare.” No, it’s an unborn baby all right, as advances in medical technology have made crystal clear. Therefore, to tear it to pieces with steel instruments, or to poison it via abortive pills is, in fact, murder and the term pales in harshness compared to the lethal cruelty visited on the innocent unborn child.
The law is both a curb to disincentivize the committing of evil acts, as well as a tutor to instruct people in what is right and wrong. By attaching no penalty to the murder of the unborn, the State of North Dakota is saying those lives are not that important, certainly not as important as the lives of those outside of the womb. Consequently, the killing will never stop as long as there is no penalty attached to this heinous crime, something to consider if you are contributing to “pro-life” organizations that work to defeat just legislation which would provide equal protection for the unborn.
