Staggered delivery could be solution

I find it interesting that the US Postal Department has trouble delivering the mail on a daily basis, especially to rural locations. I am one of the many who are affected by this. The cause is said to be the inability to hire enough people to do this job.

However, I don’t remember the last time I received mail that was so critical that the delay had any effect. Most of my mail is now advertising or requests from charitable organizations for funds. A day’s delay in those deliveries would have no impact. Others I have discussed this with agree with this premise.

To solve this problem, why not just go to mail delivery every other day? Some routes would get mail Monday, Wednesday and Friday, while other routes could get mail Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. This schedule could be expanded to all routes. There would seem to be a substantial savings in the cost of delivery with a minimal impact.

Starting at $3.75/week.
