Lower prices could boost attendance

Alex Schollmeyer, Minot

As someone who likes to attend events and shows in the city, including the upcoming KX Sports Show and, of course, this year’s North Dakota State Fair, I plan on saying something that might be of benefit to the organizations and the people that attend or plan to attend. Here goes: why is there such a high price of $10 of admission for each day of the sports show?

I know some people might think nothing of the price and think it’s a bargain. But for those just going to look for a short time at boats, campers, bikes, etc., I feel some will just say forget it and not come, especially those with spouse and kids over 10 just to look. We’re talking surrendering 40 bucks or more just walking in.

I know maybe not an issue for some but for those with limited funds it might be a lot, and not go. This would deprive the vendors and sellers of possibly additional money. I say in the future make entrance free for a day, all three of them, or not charge more than 2 or 3 dollars per day. I may be wrong but, I believe attendance and cash flow would increase.

Say, speaking of certain events, and by this I mean the North Dakota State Fair, why not lower the entrance prices by half for the whole 9 days. I really think it would bring in more people who would not go otherwise and they spend it on food, gifts among others things. I know. I know. You can get a 9 day pass for $25 and I have bought it numerous times, but others can’t always use it and be able to go just one day and shell out $12 a person that could go to other purchases. So I say it’s worth a try lowering admission to $5-6 a person and free admission after 10 or 11 at night like the old days. Just an idea to consider.

Starting at $3.75/week.
