Autopsy of MAGA movement
Wale Bablo, Fargo
As many on the progressive side would like to disagree, there is no denying that the so called “MAGA” movement was, indeed, a significant crusade in American political history. Therefore, I`m of the opinion that it is imperative to dissect through the body of this movement in order to understand the source of the frustration and anger that heralded the MAGA mist into air mainstream politics. As for now, we can simply assume the MAGA movement is dead or at best, in a persistent vegetative state.
From descending the escalator to numerous campaign trails and finally winning the White House, the MAGA community was in an ecstatic, but unknowingly, ephemeral state. Genuine joy gradually faded as the Faithfuls continue to be met with broken promises and delayed expectations. Simply put, the source of this frustration is the result of overpromise and underproduction.
Many regular hard-working Americans of the MAGA religion invested both financial and emotional resources into the propagation of the movement. In so doing, they were expectant of a return on their investments only to be met by empty words and half-deeds. The wall shifted from nice hug wall-of-China model to a see-through metal bar, which Mexico did not pay a single dime for. New Bridges and Airports? — infrastructure was on the back burner. Yet, the exploitation of these Faithfuls continued even right after the movement was stiff and cold.
Who to blame? That is too obvious. In essence, it is not about who is responsible. The job of a politician is to use all means to gain votes from their constituents. Some execute this by hook, and others by crook. The community of regula-day folks would learn from the MAGA debacle a good lesson which is: while actively participating in the democratic process, putting all your faith in a politician should be avoided at all costs. It is pragmatic to leave some space for doubts and disappointment, donate reasonably within your means and avoid the urge of quasi-heroics.
