Trump, abortion are what went wrong for conservatives
Dan Reinhard, Minot
I know that the New Year lies ahead, that there are promises of a better day -yours for the asking. I am not certain about that however. We have been through Midterm elections where conservatives around the country wondered what went wrong -where was the Red Wave? The answers are simple.
First of all, Donald Trump lost his bid to continue as President in the 2020 General Election. Do American voters remember when Trump attacked an insignificant TV network couple, Joe and Mika, regarding their commentary opinions? He did that as the Leader of the Free World. I could go on for many inappropriate diatribes Trump made, but it seems that every time I watched or read the news, there was another incident about Trump pulling his gun out of his holster and shooting himself in the foot. Many times… Donald Trump lost his election in 2020 but also caused other candidates to lose theirs in the 2022 Midterms, plain and simple.
I’ve heard that key issues in the Midterm elections were about: crime in our cities, the Southern Border crisis, inflation, gas prices, food prices, home heating energy prices, and on and on. What folks fail to understand, is that our Supreme Court also indirectly affected the outcome of the midterm elections with the Dobb’s Decision that was announced shortly before the Midterms. As a result, abortion became the number one reason that many good conservative candidates lost their bid for election. I’ve heard that the Democratic Party plans to add an abortion measure to all the State’s General Elections in 2024 as a ballot measure. The outcome in the vote in 2022 shows it was little to do with noncompetitive candidates, as several members of the Republican Party have proclaimed; in many States the voters decided it was about abortion.
If there is any hope of saving our Republic: Ron DeSantis for President and Kristi Noem for VP in 2024 … Happy New Year.
