Burlingame well qualified to serve
ShaunAnne Tangney
Minot
I write today to endorse the candidacy of Scott Burlingame for Minot City Council. I have known Mr. Burlingame for many years, and have long been impressed by his commitment to Minot. I could express the reason for my support of his candidacy very simply: he loves his hometown and is eager to do the work that it takes to keep it viable, healthy, growing, sustainable, and wise. But I’d also like to back that endorsement up with a few of Mr. Burlingame’s credentials, all of which prove him extremely well-suited to take a seat on our city council.
Mr. Burlingame has worked or currently works with or for: the Minot Alliance of Nonprofits, the Chamber-EDC Government Affairs Committee, the Census Complete Count Committee, the Minot Housing and Community Character Focus Group, Affordable Housing Developers Incorporated, the Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living (APRIL), and Independence, Inc
Additionally, Mr. Burlingame has been appointed to statewide commissions by the last three North Dakota Governors, and he has worked with the North Dakota State Legislature as well as our national representatives in the U.S. Congress on numerous issues for over twenty years.
It should be more than apparent that Mr. Burlingame has vast experience with board governance. He knows how to work with diverse groups of people to find ways to solve problems.
He knows as well how to plan and stick to a budget, and is especially skilled at finding innovative ways to get things done, managing smart, sustainable growth within whatever funding boundaries he has found himself.
He has established steady and productive relationships with every sector of governance–local, state, and national–that can only serve our city council and our community well.
In a political climate that is perhaps more fractious than at any other time, I can think of no better candidate for city government than Scott Burlingame. He is intelligent, well-connected, even-keeled, and absolutely committed to Minot. I have no doubt whatsoever that he will serve us well, and I endorse him without hesitation.
I look forward to Tuesday, November 8th, and the peaceful and cooperative exercise of democracy.
