Welcome back, Norsk Høstfest

Tom Ross, Mayor of Minot

Norsk Høstfest is back.

After the event was cancelled for two years, one of the largest Scandinavian festivals in the United States is scheduled for Sept. 28-Oct. 1. And I couldn’t be happier.

Høstfest has been one of our community’s signature events since it was founded in 1978. Its two-year absence left a noticeable void in Minot’s cultural calendar, and reminded us all about the importance and value of this event’s tradition.

But now it’s back. As usual, the entertainment is top notch: Big and Rich, Clint Black, Dierks Bentley, Brantley Gilbert, Daniel O’Donnell, The Texas Tenors, and Old Crow Medicine Show headline this year’s festival, but there are many more acts and shows to enjoy. There are also traditional foods, music, arts and crafts, and endless other activities that have always made Høstfest an integral part of the fabric of Minot.

While the event may have something of a new look, new leadership, and a new direction, one crucial aspect of Høstfest’s success hasn’t changed: Volunteers.

Volunteers have been the backbone of Høstfest’s since it was founded. Every year, hundreds of people come to Minot simply to give their time to Hostfest. The majority are local, but volunteers come from around the United States and overseas to be part of this celebration of Scandinavian heritage and culture. Without the annual crowd of volunteers, Høstfest would not have survived for 44 years. I have no doubt that this year’s event will also attract a large number of volunteers, who will ensure the event’s ongoing success.

I invite everyone to join me at Norsk Høstfest for a celebration of tradition, culture, and friendship as we continue to cultivate our heritage for future generations. I’m looking forward to strolling through the numerous halls, visiting the booths of traditional vendors, and enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells of Høstfest again.

Welcome back, Norsk Høstfest. We’ve missed you.
