Expressing appreciation for Minot

Damian Chukwurah Amazu, Charles Epundu, Minot

The Igbo community in Minot, North Dakota, wishes to appreciate the executive governor of North Dakota, Doug Burgum, and mayor of Minot, Tom Ross, for the tremendous work they are doing in our lovely Magic City. Every year the state government and mayor of Minot city never relent in thinking about the safety of all the residents by refurbishing and reconstructing all the damaged roads, sidewalks for easy access of wheelchair and scooter users and providing other infrastructures for the benefit of mankind. It stands as a great proof that we voted humanist who understands how to practicalize their promises and not a mere political prowess.

We also want to thank all the 1st Responders, ambulance drivers, nurses, doctors and fire service personnel who have sacrificed heir personal leisure into serving humanity by saving lives with a willing might at any given time once called upon. It is a time-consuming and selfless responsibility, which requires patience, humility, kindness, caring and love for the sake of humankind.

Nevertheless, Minot police are also doing a wonderful job by keeping our city and community safe. We sleep peacefully because we know we have someone who is watching over our safety. We walk and drive freely in the night and any odd time because there’s always an eye watching over us and ensuring that our safety is not truncated. We are earnestly grateful for all your selfless service you are rendering to our community, even at the risk of your own lives. Every day, you would bid a goodbye to your families without knowing if you would make it back. That’s a wonderful commitment just to ensure our safety. We, the Igbo community in Minot city, North Dakota, are pleased and grateful for the good work you are all doing.

We also wish to thank Minot State University for the opportunity to study in this wonderful university, which they have granted to many countries, from Africa and other international students. Some of us from Igbo community who are still in Minot city benefitted from your benevolence and extension of your admission to the qualified students, and more importantly, making it lightly, unlike other schools in the U.S. and other European countries. Note, we were all treated alike and no room for discrimination, that we gladly appreciated.

We, the Igbo community in Minot city, North Dakota, would continue in our little way to support the growth of our City and State the much we could because there’s one of our local adages that says ‘ebe onye bi ka o na-wachi,” meaning “wherever you sojourn is also your home and do any little you can to sustain it.”

A little about Igbo. Igbo is an ethnic group/tribe, majorly in the South-Eastern part of Nigeria, though we can be found as a minority in some of he countries around he globe. We are industrious, hardworking, goal achievers and always positive in life. More importantly, we don’t give up. We fight to perfect our positive plans, goals and aims in life and very peaceful cum law abiding.
