Is bigotry the problem?

Mike Burckhard

Minot

There are so many reasons for conflict in human interaction. This conflict can be with oneself, family, friends, coworkers or people we don’t even know. The conflict can involve different priorities in relationship decisions or ideological differences in religion, politics, economics and cultural values.

I suggest conflict isn’t the problem but instead how we engage in resolving this conflict. I also don’t think the biggest deterrent to successful conflict resolution is bigotry, ‘intolerance of the opinion of others’ because there probably are a lot of intolerable opinions. As a mental health therapist, I suggest the biggest deterrent to successful conflict resolution lies with the arrogance of someone not respecting the right of another person to have that opinion that we might not agree with.
