Help or get out of the way

Bob Wolf, Minot

We need to take time this Labor Day weekend and think about the working people that this holiday is supposed to celebrate. Our democracy is under threat from a host of anti-worker positions: from inequality, from the dismantling of worker’s rights, from attacks on voting rights, and from our failures to invest in our families and communities.

Senators Hoeven and Cramer, along with Representative Armstrong need to help or get out of the way. We need to pass the PRO Act to fix our broken labor law. We need to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to make sure all American citizens have the right to vote. We need to move President Biden’s “Build Back Better” plan for infrastructure, which includes $1 trillion in investments in roads, bridges, rail, water, broadband, and updated transmission lines as well as the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation investment in working people for things like childcare, paid leave, and labor law enforcement.

We know these are things that will not only get our economy on track, but also get our democracy back on track, allowing all working people in North Dakota to meaningfully participate in civic life again.
