Government exists to protect

Mary Shaw, Minot

There are a lot of things going on right now, it must be difficult to decide which fire we want to put out.

Just a reminder that the government’s first purpose is protection of the citizens that pay the taxes that the government spends. I fully support pay raises for all law enforecement in North Dakota and Minot. That is money well spent.

If City Hall wants newer, bigger offices, there are no events in Minot. Without the State Fair, and without sports or the Hostfest, I am sure you can buy a hotel on the edge of town with lots of parking and a bathroom for every office.

Since the State Fair is not spending any money, I would like to see the cities in the area aerial sprayed for mosquitos to prevent the spread of West Nile Virus. This is a protection of the citizens that has been timed with the state fair (but there is no fair) so let’s get the early kill. There were 148 known West Nile Virus cases in 2018 and 26 of those were in Ward County.

The time to get after the mosquitos is already past, but July is way past and always has been. Kill the mosquitos that have been destroying human lives for some time.
