Slowly Draining the Swamp

Gene Nygaard, Crosby

Another of the public servants whose first name is “Acting” is out. This time it is Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan.

His enduring legacy, of course, was in his role with Homeland Security being in charge of NOAA and the National Weather Service. He was the silent co-conspirator, the befuddled-looking flunky “Kevin” called upon by our meteorologist-in-chief to hold up the other end of his perfect weather map, the one that Trump had fixed with his Sharpie to show that Alabama was in the path of Hurricane Dorian.

That was way back on the first of September, before Ukraine-gate wiped Sharpie-gate from the memories of most people.

Everything else Mr. Acting did, including his role in followup Sharpie-gate cover-ups and several immigration-related actions stopped by the courts yesterday, was typical of the swamp we have now. Including the existence of the prolific, ever-growing Acting family of which he was a member.
