A night at the movies

Paul Ferrer, Minot

My wife and I went on Monday evening to see the new “Downton Abbey” movie at the AMC Theater in the Dakota Square Mall – which we thought was excellent. Aside from the “sticker shock” at the price being asked for two bags of popcorn and two smallest sodas (in excess of $30 – our senior-discounted tickets were only $16 for both of us), our adventure had just begun.

Movie time was supposed to be 6:30. But first must show a full half-hour of previews of coming attractions, most of which were not coming until late October or sometime in November. I must complain about the volume of the audio for the previews which was obviously designed to make sure no one slept through them. No wonder people’s hearing is being lost.

Fortunately, the volume for the feature film was at a reasonable level. I would strongly suggest that those who value their hearing bring earplugs. And a small loan to buy refreshments. That is one reason we don’t do many in-theater movies.
