The history of Niobe

Robert Holmen, Minot

Thanks for the recent article describing the village of Niobe. My grandparents were homesteaders near Niobe and lived in the village during their retirement years. Their family, including my mother Jennie Ekberg Holmen and my aunt Lillie Ekberg Enget, considered Niobe to be their hometown.

My ancestors were members of the Niobe Baptist Church. The church building was dismantled many years ago and lumber from the church was used to construct Niobe Cabin at Camp Bentley which is the American Baptist campground near Drake. Hundreds of campers have stayed in Niobe Cabin over the past 50-plus years. A portion of old Niobe survives in Christian ministry today.
