Community support important to success of military mission

Minot is a military community. With that comes a longtime support from this community for the men and women and their families of all military branches who live and work here, including active duty, military retirees and veterans.

Recently the Minot Area Chamber EDC was selected as the winner of Air Force Global Strike Command’s 2022 Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher Distinguished Civilian Humanitarian Award.

Minot Air Force Base’s 5th Bomb Wing and 91st Missile Wing are units of Air Force Global Strike Command. The bomb wing has the B-52 bombers and the missile wing oversees, maintains and controls Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles in the Minot missile field.

The award being bestowed upon the Minot Area Chamber EDC is for the organization’s dedication to the well-being of service members and their families.

Col. Michael Walters, commander of the 5th Bomb Wing, said, in the announcement about the recent award, “On behalf of the team here, I can say we are all truly honored to live in such an actively engaged community. Whether with one of our many first-term airmen, the families who have a few years under their belts, and everyone in between, we truly appreciate the long-lasting initiatives from the community which help advance not only the quality of life for our people, but also our nation’s security and defense priorities.”

The Air Force Global Strike Command’s award is a very special and honorable recognition for an organization to receive.

The award also offers reassurance that the Chamber EDC, Minot community and region are doing what they need to do now and into the future to support military members and their families. This, in turn, is important to our nation’s defense.
