Trinity, Minot Public Schools deserve our appreciation

It seems no matter where you live, there are certain parts of the community that are criticized, fairly or maybe not.

Three targets of that “negativity” are normally the local media, local health care, and the local public school district.

With a transplant on The Minot Daily News editorial board, it gives us a chance to look with fresh eyes.

We will not comment on ourselves for the obvious reasons. But when it comes to health care and the school district we often have something to say.

Today it is that Trinity Health and Minot Public Schools are doing a lot of things the right way.

For the community the size of Minot to have a health system as deep and vast as Trinity offers is truly remarkable. You can always nitpick but realistically, from the walk-in clinic and up, the health-care needs of Minot and area residents are in great hands with a plethora of care options to choose from.

With our publisher coming from a school district back in the East, the thing that has stood out here is the professionalism and knowledge of the Minot Public Schools staff.

Each kid in an educational setting is different. Some kiddos are going to be round pegs; they will not fit through a typical square hole.

MPS does an excellent job of not only recognizing a student who is a round peg, but also giving the parents and the students suggestions on how to help that student excel.

Education can be frustrating for parents and educators. Let’s face the facts, school districts have limited budgets that they have to apply equally to all the students in the district.

That’s something, we feel, the MPS does an excellent job of, providing opportunities and even more importantly answers when the time comes.

It’s never easy being part of health care or education. It is sometimes thankless.

We just want to say thank you to all the nurses, teachers, doctors, administrators, staff and everyone else involved with both organizations.
