Let’s look to and rely on our local medical experts

Last week, we applauded the Minot Public Schools for offering up a mask recommendation and not wading any further into the political quagmire that is COVID-19.

We get it. We’re all tired of COVID-19. We’re all tired of masks.

We’re just tired.

But after reading Rep. Jeff Hoverson’s comments on Tuesday at the commissioners’ meeting, where he offered a proposed resolution, banning vaccine mandates.

The Minot Daily News wants politicians to stay out of our health care too.

How about we do this?

Let’s listen to our local doctors, the North Dakota Department of Health, and others, who have spent their lives in pursuit of science and medicine. And then do what we feel is best for ourselves, and for our families.

We remember all too vividly, last August, when North Dakota had not hit the peak of the pandemic like the East Coast of the US.

But there were warnings all around, that it was coming in the fall.

And it came.

More than 1,500 people have died from COVID-19, with total cases at more than 114,000 or 15% of the total population of North Dakota.

Those warnings are there again.

We don’t need another fall like the fall of 2020.

So, let’s look to the infectious disease specialists within Trinity Health and other local leaders in the medical field to lead the way.

And we follow that lead.

It’s time for COVID-19 to stop being a political hot button.
