Congratulations to Minot community for support to Minot AFB

This past week an honor was bestowed upon Minot and its residents for having the most outstanding community support to an Air Force Global Strike Command base. That base is Minot Air Force Base.

The award was presented during the 2019 Global Strike Challenge scoreposting held at Barksdale AFB in Louisiana this past Wednesday. Bruce Christianson and Brekka Kramer, members of the Air Force Global Strike Command’s Civic Leader Program, accepted the trophy on behalf of the Minot community.

Minot is one of only two communities to receive the Barksdale Trophy since the honor was created in 2017. The city of Abilene, Texas, won the first trophy in 2017.

Murray Viser, president and chief operating officer for Barksdale Forward, Inc., said the Barksdale Trophy is awarded to the community providing the highest level of community support to an Air Force base in the Air Force Global Strike Command over the preceding 24 months.

Barksdale Forward, Inc. manages the award program on behalf of the communities of Shreveport and Bossier City, La.

Community selection for the trophy is based on areas including programs, community investment in infrastructure, and community assistance and support in securing state and federal funds for infrastructure or programs to benefit military members and their families.

Overall community hospitality and acceptance of military members and their families were among the selection criteria.

Since Minot Air Force Base came into existence several decades ago, military members and their families have become, and continue to be, a vital part of this community and area communities. Many are part of the local workforce, volunteer and participate in various activities. Many live in the local communities.

When you and your family gather around the table on Thanksgiving Day this Thursday and give thanks, be sure to include your thanks to the many military members and their families who are assigned to Minot Air Force Base and those from here who may be deployed in other parts of the world during the holiday season.
