Dakota Memorial School remodel will pay dividends

It’s obvious that a lot of thought and innovation went into the remodel at the Dakota Memorial School at Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch.

The remodel process took place, cost some $250,000 – funded by grants and donors – so that all 58 students were welcomed to an updated facility when they returned to class last month.

The upgrades include remodeling to address the specific learning needs of young people who might have experienced trauma or have other special needs. Comfort and a sense of security were keys to the planning and are important to these youngsters. These factors also assist in building student confidence, which is important to young people who might have experienced trauma and/or have special needs.

Years ago, students with special needs have limited opportunities – something that has certainly changed. Additional studies and data have shown that these students can succeed and innovation in addressing the needs of this population has emanated.

One can add the Dakota Memorial School to the list of those educational institutions continuing to evolve and better service these special students.

Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch is a fine organization that does good work and is a source of pride in the community. This remodel at the Dakota Memorial School will only enhance its program and the benefits it brings to youngsters.

The dividend will be the success of the students, academically and over the course of their lives.

Congratulations to the Dakota Memorial School, the Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch and to the many people in the community who have long been supporters of a fine institution.
