Thanks again, Souris Valley United Way

Congratulations and thanks are due the Souris Valley United Way for another excellent effort in funding local area programs!

Yesterday, grants totalling $419, 570 were announced, each addressing the areas of Education, Financial Stability, and Health. Twenty-five recipient organizations were recognized at the occasion in Minot.

Local programs receiving funds were American Red Cross, Annie’s House Adaptive Recreation Program, Backpack Buddies, Boy Scouts – Northern Lights, Catholic Charities ND – Guardianship Division, Catholic Charities ND – Pregnancy Services, Community Action Partnership, Companions for Children, Dolly Parton, Imagination Library, Domestic Violence Crisis Center – Children’s Advocate, Domestic Violence Crisis Center – Emergency Shelter, Domestic Violence Crisis Center – Volunteer Program, First Link 2-1-1 Program – Information and Crisis hotline, Girl Scouts – Dakota Horizons, Lutheran Social Services – Senior Companions, Minot Area Homeless Coalition, Minot Area Men’s Winter Refuge, Minot Commission on Aging – Meals on Wheels, Minot Literacy Volunteers, Northern Plains Child Advocacy Center, The Salvation Army, Village Family Service Center – Pregnancy Counseling, Village Family Service Center – Supervised Parenting, YMCA – School Readiness & Success, YWCA – Emergency Assistance.

Recipient programs serve the communities in an assortment of ways in representing Minot’s willingness to serve those in need. In supporting these programs, the Souris Valley United Way again illustrates the critical role it plays in the community.

In a press release about Tuesday’s announcement, Executive Director Patricia Smith pointed out why the United Way’s efforts are so important these days. “The message heard during the grant interviews was the increased demand for services due to the economic downturn. That is why it is so important to grow the 2016 Campaign.”

Not to be forgotten, of course, are all of those individuals, businesses and institutions that support the Souris Valley United Way. All donors should be proud of the organization’s efforts.
