Walter Bloom

Walter Bloom, 79, Minot, formerly of Plaza and Minneapolis, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at a Minot care center. Walter Edgar Bloom was born on August 16, 1947, in Stanley, to Edgar and Dora (Malcomb) Bloom. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, near Plaza. He grew up and was educated in Plaza and graduated from Plaza High School in 1966. Walter continued his education in Denver, CO, graduating from National Electronics Institute in 1968. He then moved to Kansas City, MO, and graduated from Atlantic Airline School in February 1969.

He began employment at North Central Airlines, which later became Republic Airline. He continued through mergers with Northwest Airlines and then Delta Airlines. Throughout the years he worked at Chicago O'Hare Airport, Muskegon MI, Bismarck ND, Kansas City MO, Phoenix AZ, and Minneapolis/St. Paul MN. In 2008, with 39 1/2 years of seniority, Walter retired.

Walter continued living in Minneapolis and enjoyed retirement. He moved to Minot in 2023. He always loved music, and in recent years he fulfilled a lifelong dream of learning to play piano. Walt had a strong faith and was a member of Lutheran Churches wherever he lived.

Family was very important to Walter. He loved his niece and cousins, and cherished time spent with them. Walter was a kind and gentle man, a great friend, and a dearly loved uncle who will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his niece, Carmen Duvall (Dylan) of Elk River, MN; great-nieces, Heather Anderson, Lacey Finger, and Alyssa Pretzer; and great-nephews, Caleb Duvall and Danner Duvall; thirteen great-great-nephews and nieces; along with his loving cousins and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Barbara (Thomas) Johnson and Mary Lou Bloom.

Funeral: Thursday, October 8, 2026, 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, Plaza, with visitation 1 hour prior to the start of the service.

Interment: East Plaza Cemetery, Plaza
