Mel J. Frueh, 98, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on September 8, 2026. Born April 13, 1928, in rural Harvey, ND, Mel was raised with a strong faith and devotion to family that remained important throughout his life. He served his country during the Korean War and later spent 33 years working in banking before retiring in 1988. When his father-in-law passed away, Mel stepped in to help on the family farm, simply doing what needed to be done. In his free time, he enjoyed camping and days at the lake, especially fishing and pulling water skiers. Mel shared nearly 73 years of marriage with his wife, Kay. Together they built a life centered on faith and family. He was the father of Mark (Jean), Cindy (Harry), and Brent (Shari), and a proud grandfather of six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Those who knew Mel will remember a hardworking man who cared deeply for his family, always gave his best, and was happiest simply doing what needed to be done.
A memorial service (with lunch) will be held Friday, October 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park and Funeral Care 6747 E. Broadway Rd Mesa, AZ 85206.
