Kenneth J. Larson, 83, Minot, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 9, 2026 in a Minot hospital from an apparent heart attack. His loving family was at his side.
Kenneth Joel Larson was born on April 26, 1943 in Park Rapids, MN to Phillip Kenneth and Loretta Lufa (Cunningham) Larson. He was raised in Fargo and as a young adult worked on the family farm near Glyndon, MN. In 1966 Ken married Ella Eggert and resided in Fargo, ND where Ken made a living as a professional musician. They later parted ways.
In 1972 Ken met Barbara Lafrombois. They moved to Minneapolis, MN where Ken joined the Teamsters Union as a truck driver and they began their family. In 1975 Barbara wanted to be closer to family so they moved to Minot, ND. Ken was employed by Gandrud Drywall prior to establishing, with his sons Kenneth and Travis, Larson Drywall. Ken's love of music continued while playing the guitar and singing for many years with some favorite local bands including Restless, Cimarron and Nickel Dreams.
Ken lost the love of his life when Barbara passed away on December 12, 2015.
Ken enjoyed home remodeling, woodworking and casino games. He especially enjoyed sprint car racing, and Sunday calls and annual visits with his siblings but Ken's real passion was his grandchildren, he was very proud of them and took every opportunity to boast. He was always inquiring about his grandchildren, and he loved attending their performances and school activities. He adored spending time with his grand and great grandchildren.
Ken's loving family includes his children: John (Maria) Larson of Niwot, Co, Kenneth (Shannon) Larson of Burlington, Travis (Lynn) Larson of Minot, Jackie Ihle of Denver and Jennifer Eggert of San Francisco; siblings: Bernerd (Ike) Larson, Tim (Patty) Larson, Shirleen Larson, and Kay Kukert. Grandchildren: Crystal House (Brady), Josh Feist, Danielle House, Skyler White, Mikah Feist, Christopher Seideman, Tasha Wolf, Jacob Larson, Macey Wantz (Cody), McKenzie Larson (Trevor), Matty Larson (Ashley), Maggie Larson (Jayden), Trevor Larson (Myleigh), Wyatt Larson, Fisher Larson. great grandchildren; Jersey and Kennedy Bossall, Bentley Schlack, Shaya Feist, Kane House, Kato Brust, Korah Abrahamson, Rian and Draven Wantz, Remington and Wynonna (Monkey) Schlichenmeyer, Bo and Sylvie Larson, Mavrick and Brielle Larson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Barbara; children: Elizabeth Bolen and Trina Feist; daughter-in-law; Tina Larson; siblings: Terry Larson, Mardel (Melvin) Halstengard, Bev (Chuck) Emerson, Kathy (Dave) Leedum and brother-in-law: Delano Kukert.
Celebration of the Life of Kenneth J. Larson: Monday, October 19, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in Christ Lutheran Church, Minot. A livestream of the service may be viewed by using the link in the website obituary.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Sunday from 1pm to 3pm in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to a local food pantry or Meals on Wheels of Minot.
