Janet Lucille Olson

Jan. 14, 1945-Oct. 19, 2026

Minot

Janet Lucille Olson, 81, of Minot, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2026, at Trinity Hospital in Minot, surrounded by the love of her family.

Janet was born on January 14, 1945, in Minot, North Dakota, a daughter of Harry and Doris (Wilcox) Hughes. She was raised and educated in Minot, where she spent her childhood and made many lifelong memories.

On February 14, 1975, Janet was united in marriage to Rolland "Groucho" Olson. Together, they made their home in rural Surrey for several years before returning to Minot.

Janet found happiness in life’s simple pleasures, whether it was an afternoon playing bingo, browsing thrift stores, or searching for her next great bargain. Never one to pass up a good deal, Janet was known for bringing home the "latest treasure."

A devoted Elvis fan, Janet treasured her collection of his music CDs and enjoyed listening to his songs. She also loved attending motorcycle fun runs and held a special place in her heart for the FUGGS Annual Cancer Benefit Run; an event she faithfully attended each year until her declining health no longer allowed her to participate. Among the many simple pleasures found in life, Janet also enjoyed a Coke with light ice.

Janet will be remembered for her spirited personality, her love of a good bargain, and the special place she held in the hearts of her children and grandchildren. While her family will deeply miss her presence, they will forever treasure the memories, laughter, and familiar little things that made her uniquely Janet. Her legacy lives on in the family she loved and in the countless stories that will continue to bring smiles whenever her name is spoken.

Her loving family includes: her sons, Steve Bohn and Mike (Patricia) Wood; daughter, Angela Olson (Shaun); grandchildren, Justin, Jennifer, Jason, Tristin, and Ethan; brother, Wayne (Jean) Hughes; sister-in-law, Tina Hughes; cousins, Beverly (Mike) Brown and Gail (Merle) Thompson; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Doris Hughes; her husband, Rolland "Groucho" Olson; brothers, Richard Hughes-Wilcox and Harry Hughes; and infant sister, Donna Lou Hughes.

Janet’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the fifth-floor medical staff at Trinity Hospital for the compassionate care, kindness, and support shown to Janet and her family during this difficult time. Your thoughtfulness and dedication will always be remembered.

Though saying goodbye is never easy, Janet’s children and grandchildren will carry her love with them always -- in the familiar sound of an Elvis song, the discovery of an unexpected bargain, a Diet Coke with light ice, and every cherished memory of the woman they were blessed to call Mom and Grandma.
