Dennis Dean Mittlieder, 70, Minot, North Dakota, passed away on October 24, 2026.
Dennis was born October 28, 1955, at St. Joseph's Hospital to Donald and Doris (Sampson) Mittlieder. He was raised in Minot by his mother and graduated from Minot High School in 1973. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Dennis loved his country and was very patriotic. Following his military service, he graduated from Minot State University and went on to work various jobs.
Dennis spent time during his childhood at the farm of his uncle and aunt, Orrie and Gladys Huizenga. There, he shared experiences with his cousins Sherry, Larry, Lee, and Leon. Together they created memories that would remain a part of his life story. Many Christmas and Easter holidays and birthday celebrations were celebrated together.
Dennis played softball during his youth and was an amazing pool player. He followed many sports on TV and was serious about his baseball and fantasy football teams.
Dennis was a very intelligent man. He had a memory for numbers, remembered facts about sports, and understood politics. He was known for his outgoing personality and friendly nature. He was a natural conversationalist who loved to visit with others and made connections wherever he went. He was someone people enjoyed being around. His presence will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched.
Of all the roles Dennis held throughout his life, being a husband and father was the most important to him. He loved his wife, Deb, and his two sons, Kyle and Jay (and becoming a grandfather to Marlee was his proudest moment). Dennis thrived on being a dad and shared the things he loved with his boys. He spent hours throwing footballs and baseballs with them in the backyard and coaching their teams. And, of course, he shared his loyalty to the Vikings!
Dennis loved traveling. The opportunity to experience new places, spend time with the people closest to him, and make memories brought him happiness. He was especially fond of trying new restaurants. He often told stories of his travels during his time in the navy.
Deb's family became Dennis's family. He had a special bond with his mother-in-law, Virginia Slavick. He was loved by his in-laws (especially Kevin Dunn, who called him Spud), nieces, and nephews. The "Littles" spent many hours at the Mittlieder house and Dennis treated each one like his own.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Mittlieder; sons, Kyle (Lauren) Mittlieder and Jay Mittlieder; beloved granddaughter, Marlee; mother-in-law; and half-sisters Linda Isakson and Cheryl Maldonado.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris, father-in-law, Laymn (Bud) Slavick; his Uncle Orrie and Aunt Gladys, and cousin, Sherry.
