Bernadine "Bernie" Logsdon lived a long, full life defined by quiet strength, and deep devotion to home. Born Bernadine Helen Walter on January 12, 1936, the daughter of Wendlin & Margaret Walter, she reached the remarkable age of 90 before passing away peacefully on September 17, 2026, in her Burlington, ND home. Her closest friend and caretaker with her.
Bernie found joy in the everyday rhythms of domestic life. She loved being at home, moving from one task to the next, always keeping her hands busy. Gardening was one of her great passions; she tended her yard with care and pride. Ironing – an art many overlook – was something she mastered, and those who knew her recognized her skill and precision. She also possessed an exceptional talent for sewing, able to interpret patterns so complex that even an architect might struggle with them. She was someone who could transform scraps into something useful, beautiful, or comforting.
She is best described as a "modern-day pioneer woman," a phrase that captures her resilience and ingenuity.
Bernie leaves behind a loving family. She is survived by her brothers, Al (Judy) Walter, Tony Walter, and Jim (Doris) Walter; and her sister, Joann (Mike) Mallory; sister-in-law, Pat Walter; and son in law, Robert Dolan. She is also survived by her children, Margaret "Peggy" (Arthur) Ludke of Wakonda, SD; Melanie (John) Shaon of Nixa, MO; and Kevin (Patricia) Olson of Mandan, ND; her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, many of whom affectionately knew her as Grandma or Auntie Bernie.
Bernadine’s life story is one of quiet heroism: a woman who built comfort, created beauty, and when as a young single parent, held her small children together through the simple, powerful acts of daily care. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Bernadine will be laid to rest in the Fairview Cemetery in Stanley, North Dakota on Monday, October 5, 2026 at 1:00 PM.
