Sanford "Sandy" Helmuth passed away peacefully at Meadowlark Assisted Living in Columbus, Montana on September 19, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Sanford was born in Rugby in November 1945, the son of Ervin and Sarah Helmuth Sr. He grew up on the family farm outside of Wolford, where he learned the values of hard work, family, and perseverance. He attended Wolford High School and graduated with the Class of 1964. Sanford and Sheryl were united in marriage in June 1967 at the Wesleyan Church in Miles City.
Sanford is survived by his daughter, Valerie of Williston; granddaughter, Audrey (Chase) of Dickinson; son, Josh and his wife, Piney, of Fishtail; granddaughter, Kylie (Cody) of Coeur d'Alene; grandson, Dalton of Billings; brothers, Ervin (Ruthann) of Mylo, Virgil of Wolford, and Herschel (Tammy) of Glendive.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2026 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby. Burial will be after the service at the Lakeview Mennonite Cemetery north of Wolford and lunch and fellowship to follow at Harvest Church next to the cemetery.
Visitation will be on Saturday for one hour prior to the time of services at the funeral home.
