Kenmare
James "Jim" Arthur Hansen, 87, of Kenmare, ND passed away peacefully at his home, September 23, 2026.
Jim was born June 28,1939, in Kenmare, to Herman and Clarice Hansen. He graduated from Kenmare High School in 1957 and went on to attend Minot State College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1964. He taught, coached and served as principal in Donnybrook from 1964 to 1968 before embarking on his lifelong passion of farming.
Jim was deeply involved in his community throughout his life. He served on the Kenmare School Board, the Norma Farmers Elevator Board and was a member of the original board of Upper Souris Water Users. He was a charter member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, and gave generously of his time, serving in numerous leadership positions over the years, including president, board member, and trustee.
Jim married Judie Miller in 1963 and together they had two children, Julie and Jeff. In 1987, Jim married Margie Brekhus with whom he shared nearly 39 years of marriage. In a handwritten account of the important things in his life, Jim wrote simply of Margie; “Loved her.”
Farming was a large part of Jim’s life, but he made time for the things he enjoyed the most. He had a lifelong love of the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing and golf. He also enjoyed gardening and sharing the produce with friends and family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Margie; daughter Julie (Michael) Kudrna; son Jeff Hansen; stepdaughters Christy (Monte) Brekhus; Cheri (Bill) Broghammer; grandchildren Ryan (Madison) Glass, Nathan (Grace) Glass, Kyle Glass, Chernee Brekhus, Kendra (Ben) Ragan, Madeline Broghammer, Elise Broghammer, Lyla Broghammer; great-grandchildren Chase Glass and Bennett Glass; sister Edith Halvorson and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Clarice, and his brother-in-law, Donald Halvorson.
Jim leaves behind a life built around family, farming, service to his community and the outdoors he loved.
Memorial Service: Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 2:30 pm. at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare.
Burial: Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND.
Visitation: Thursday one hour prior to the service at the Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare, ND.
