Vernita (Dufner) Broderick, 95, Minot, ND passed away on August 21, 2026, at Trinity Homes in Minot.
Vernita Dufner was born on March 28, 1931, on the family farm near Lansford, ND. She attended rural elementary school and graduated from Westhope High School. She then attended Minot State University on a one-year scholarship. She taught for a period of four years in the Minot area; one year in a rural setting, one year in the Foxholm, ND School System, and two years with the Minot Public School System. She also taught baton twirling as an extracurricular activity. She moved to Wayzata, MN and while there was united in marriage to William (Bill) Broderick at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church on August 6, 1956.
After returning to North Dakota, they both taught in the Garrison School System for one year. They moved to Minot where Vernita continued her education at Minot State University and obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education while raising a family of four.
She was actively involved in numerous organizations throughout her life, including Delta Epsilon Phi Sorority, the Newman Club at Minot State University, the Minnesota Education Association, the North Dakota Education Association, and the Little Flower Altar Society. She also generously gave her time by serving as co-chair for events at Bishop Ryan.
Her surviving family members include children, Maurice (Sherry) Broderick, Minot, ND; Janelle (Marc) Boehm, Omaha, NE; Joe (Cheryl) Broderick, Champlin, MN, daughter-in-law, Pam Broderick. Sister, Theresa Bowen, Belleville, IL. Sister-in-law Sharen Dufner, El Paso, TX; brothers-in-law, Ed Schall, Minot, ND and Mike Kiskila, San Jose, CA; grandchildren, Ashley Broderick, Dylan Broderick, Broderick Boehm, Christian (Vanessa) Boehm, Lukas (Sadie) Boehm, Griffin Broderick and Harper Broderick; one great grandchild, Wesley John Boehm and many nieces and nephews.
Vernita is preceded in death by her parents John and Susan, husband Bill, son Dennis; brothers, Virgil, Albin, Melvin, Orville, and a baby brother; sisters, Marcella Weber, Delores Routledge, Donna Roberts, Betty Schall, Loreen Kiskila, and Agnes Popplar; stepmother Irene Dufner; brothers-in-law John Weber, Lynn Roberts, Merle Routledge, Fred Popplar; sisters-in-law Evelyn Dufner, Ava Dufner and Emily Dufner.
The family is grateful for the nurses and aides at Somerset Court, Trinity Homes and Caring Edge Hospice for their loving care and gentle support.
Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service: Monday, August 31 at 5:00 pm at Thompson Larson Funeral Home.
Visitation: Monday, August 31, 2026, from 5:30pm to 7:00pm at Thompson Larson Funeral Home.
Burial: Burial will be held immediately following the Funeral Mass in Rosehill Memorial Park Cemetery, Minot.
