Vaughn Gibson, 77, Minot, ND, passed away Monday, August 10, 2026, in his home.
Vaughn E. Gibson was born July 15, 1949, to Theodore and Alvera "Dolly" (Enget) Gibson. The love of God, family and country was instilled at a young age. Vaughn graduated from Powers Lake High School in 1967. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served as a wire chief in Vietnam where he received the Navy Achievement Medal as well as the CDM medal.
Vaughn married JoNell Nyberg on March 13, 1971. They were blessed with a son, Jeremy, and blessed with 55 years of marriage.
Vaughn worked for Mondak Chemical and later Lamco Chemical in Minot. He operated G&P Commercial Sales in Minot, retiring in 2010.
Vaughn's love for history and hunting led to re-enactments of the Fur Trade Era (Rendezvous) throughout the state forming many lifelong friendships. Again, the love of hunting and history let Vaughn and Jim Johnon to build a log cabin in the White Earth Valley. It became the source of many memories for family and friends.
In 2014, Vaughn and JoNell started to winter in Mesa, AZ. This provided opportunities to reconnect with several cousins living there. Again, many new friendships were formed.
On September 25, 2025, Vaughn was able to travel to Washington D.C. with Jeremy on the Western ND Honor Flight. He treasured this experience dearly.
Vaughn will be missed by his loving wife, JoNell; son, Jeremy; sister, Thea Donna Johnson; sister-in-law, Marlys Gibson; along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Vaughn was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Dolly Gibson; brother, Nathan Gibson; sister and brother-in-law, Jeri and Bub Holmen; brother-in-law, Merlyn "Tutter" Johnson.
Memorial Service: Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11:00 am at Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot.
Inurnment: will take place at a later date at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
Visitation: Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Western ND Honor Flight, Tunnels to Towers, Labs for Liberty or a charity of your choice.
