Shirley Dietz, 89, Minot died on Thursday, July 30, 2026 in a Velva care center.
Shirley Fay was born on February 21, 1937 in Harvey, ND to Frederick and Selma (Foss) Johnson. She was raised and educated in Heimdal, graduated from Fessenden High School in 1954 and from Trinity School of Nursing in 1957.
Shirley married Alvin Dietz on November 10, 1957 in Heimdal. They primarily made their home in Minot where Shirley was employed at Trinity Hospital as a registered nurse in the nursery and in orthopedics.
Shirley retired in 1994 and they had spent the winter months in Arizona from 1996 until 2018. Al died on November 4, 2021. Shirley had been a resident of Souris Valley Care Center since 2021.
Shirley was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church - Minot and especially enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, crafts, fishing, baking, sewing, cooking and knitting hats for babies born at Trinity Hospital. She cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Shirley's loving family includes her children: Kimberly (Mike) Foster of Lake Metigoshe, ND and Karla (Gary) Gabriel of Bismarck; grandchildren: Meghan (Joe) Kjelshus and Matthew (Whitney) Foster; great grandchildren: Foster, Phoebe, Henrik, Clark, Embry and Kaliah and several cousins.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and husband: Al.
At Shirley's request a private family graveside service will be held at Rosehill Memorial Park.
Memorials are preferred to the Alvin and Shirley Dietz Scholarship Endowment at Minot State University or to an organization of the donor's choice.
