Darlene Solberg, 88, entered her eternal reward and glory on Sunday, August 23, 2026, surrounded by her loving family in her home.

Darlene Marie Newell was born on January 8, 1938, to Faye and Hannah (Suchor) Newell in Fargo, ND. She moved to Towner, ND, as a young girl with her mother and was reared and educated there.

She married Dean Carl Solberg on September 17, 1956, at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.

They lived for a time in Rapid City, SD, Great Falls, MT, and Backus, MN before moving back to Towner in 1965, where they lived until moving to Minot in 1986.

Darlene was employed at various jobs: D'Hielly's Department Store, Anne's Tastee Freeze, and Towner School hot lunch program before moving to Minot where she did house cleaning and worked as a cook at Uni-Med Medical Center.

Darlene was one of the selected women to receive the Outstanding Woman of America in 1970. She was a former member of Town and Country Homemakers Club, Cub Scout Den Mother, PTA, and Band Mothers. She cooked for various weddings, funerals and gatherings.

She was the best wife, mom, grandma, and friend. Absolutely an amazing woman.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 70 years, Dean; children, Terry, Jim (Johnel), Donna, Cheryl, Deb (David), and Mark (Dianne); grandchildren, Dallas, Cody, Dylon, Dalton, Levi, Eric, Coy (Sadie); great-grandchild, Gus; along with many loving cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Larry; mother, Hannah Newell; brother, Duane Newell; in-laws, Carl and Gina Solberg; Albert Tweeten; sister-in-law, Jeanette Hale.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, August 29, 2026, 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, Minot.

Visitation: Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Interment: Saint Cecilia’s Catholic Cemetery, Towner, ND.
