Carol Mae Rostad, 92, Minot, died Friday, July 31, 2026, in Minot.

Carol was born May 24, 1934, in Plaza, ND, the daughter of Alger and Nettie (Oswald) Arness. She was raised and educated in Plaza and graduated from Plaza High School in 1952. Following graduation, she earned her teacher's license, then taught for four years in a rural school near Parshall and Plaza, ND.

Carol was united in marriage to Clayton Rostad on December 9, 1956. The following year, they moved to Minot, where they made their home and raised their three children, Ladine, Laurie, and Jim. In 1972, Carol earned a degree in elementary education from Minot State College. She served as a first-grade teacher at Burlington Elementary School from 1973 to 1997.

Carol was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Minot where she was involved in the women's group. She was also a member of the North Dakota Education Association, National Education Association, American Legion Auxiliary, and Minot Antique Car Club. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, collecting antiques, and attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events.

Carol's husband, Clayton, died on October 23, 2016. Carol continued to live in their home in Minot until she moved to Edgewood Vista in Minot in 2019.

Carol is survived by her children Ladine (Dennis) Kunnanz of Edmond, OK, Laurie (Tom) Kunnanz of Minot and Jim (Linnea) Rostad of Cottage Grove, MN, grandchildren Jason (Dana) Kunnanz, Gregory (Stephanie) Kunnanz, Dustin (Krystal) Kunnanz, Reed Kunnanz, Shane (Meagan) Kunnanz, Peder (Chelsea) Kunnanz, Halie Rostad, Jaycie (Hunter Cope) Rostad, Ella Rostad, and Layton Rostad, great-grandchildren Cole, Rory, Brooklynn, Ali, Callie (Kevin England), Taber, Gemma, Slade, Creed, Laken, Landon, Camdyn, Georgie, Gunner, and Dawsen, and great-great-grandchildren Elaine and Oliver, sister Marcia Nordmark of Detroit Lakes, MN, and brother Gary (Sadie) Arness of Benton, KY, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers Dean, Lyle, and Alger, Jr.

Visitation: Wednesday, August 5th, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
