Wilson R. Headrick Jr., 83, Minot, died Saturday, June 27, 2026 in his home.
Wilson R. Headrick was born on March 31, 1943, the son of Wilson and Wanda (McDiarmid) Headrick in Minot, ND. He was raised and educated in Minot, graduating from Minot High School in 1961.
On June 10, 1964, Wilson enlisted into the United States Army. He proudly served his country for 1 1/2 tours during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged on March 31, 1968. He attended Minot State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1973.
On March 28, 1970, Wilson was united in marriage to Kathy Ann “Kate” Haakenstad in Minot. On November 27, 1970, their lives were blessed with the birth of their son Jesse. The family lived in Rolla for a short time, before moving to Washburn, ND in 1974 While in Washburn, Wilson was employed by the McLean County Sherriff’s department with the last 26 years at the Chief Deputy until his retirement in 2000. Following retirement, they returned to Minot.
Kathy died September 13, 2007. Following her death, Wilson continued to live in Minot. He was an avid outdoorsman, especially hunting. He took great pride in his family and would attend his three grandchildren’s events as much as possible. He enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians baseball and the Green Bay Packers football teams. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends and took in several patriotic events. Recently Wilson and his two brothers were honored with the “Quilt of Valor” for their service.
Wilson was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #753.
Wilson is survived by:
Son Jesse (Ann) Headrick Minot ND;
Grandchildren: Collin (Delaney Fried) Headrick, Cody Headrick and Finley Headrick, all of Minot;
Siblings: Loren (Peggy) Headrick, Minot, ND and Patrick (Barbara) Headrick, Bismarck ND; companion Sharon Chrest, Washburn, ND; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wilson was preceded in death by his parents, wife Kathy, and a sister-in-law Ruth Headrick.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral Service: Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 10 am at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church, Minot
Graveside Service with military honors: Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 3 pm at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
